A generally good crossing, although the last three days were hard work as he had to do all the steering ourselves. An 8mm stainless steel bolt holding the Hydrovane to the stern sheared and although we got it fixed the next day, it proved impossible, in the huge following seas, to re-attach the self-steering rudder. So, 90 minute tricks on the helm!
14/11/2007 Marina San Miguel to San Sebastian de la Gomera, La Gomera, 32 nm (3,340 nm)
Despite all the forecasts, we had headwinds up to 25 knots - both of us got drenched as waves came over the sprayhood, but at least the spray was warm!

12/08/2007 to 14/08/2007 Crosshaven to La Coruña via Falmouth (England) 1527Nm
A big low came across giving us southerlies instead of the expected northerlies. Also the problem with the chain plates appeared and we decided, after having almost reached the halfway mark across Biscay, to turn tail and head for Falmouth for some repairs. When we arrived the harbour was full of retired Fastnet Race yachts.

Headed for Kinlocherbervie, but due to the strength of the winds and only limited info on the harbour (depth), the harbour master not responding to the VHF or mobile, we changed our minds and went on to Loch Inver instead; didn't fancy running aground with the wind gusting to 35 knots.

Left Blyth under engine in fog and headed north, intended direct to Peterhead, the wind increased and the visibility improved throughout the day. Decided to go into Eyemouth to sort out an annoying squeak from the sheaves on the wheel steering system; a spray with some grease fixed it.
